School and Classroom Orders
Bring history to life for your students!
Are you looking for a way to improve engagement and learning in your history classes? The Lost Letters project was developed to make history fun for kids AND to link with the curriculum.
You can order The Lost Letters for your classroom, where they will promote reading, problem solving, imagination and historical inquiry.
There are six letters in each story, which can be delivered in one go or staggered over 12 weeks. For a group of children, the mail can be addressed to the teacher, but the letters within are simply addressed ‘Dear Cousin’. There will be one copy of each item or souvenir included in the letters, which can be passed around or pinned up at the front of the class. Please contact us with any queries.
How does The Lost Letters link with the Victorian History Curriculum?
The Lost Letters is a compelling and immersive classroom resource that supports the Victorian History Curriculum, particularly for grades 3–6. The letters engage students in historical inquiry through the exploration of key events, perspectives, and social history in Australia. This narrative-based tool covers critical themes and key learning areas in an accessible and engaging way, making it an invaluable resource for teachers in both the classroom and online learning environments.
The Lost Letters prompts questions such as:
How has our community changed?
Who were the people who came to Australia and why did they come?
What do we know about the lives of people in Australia’s past?
How has Australian society changed?
Reading The Lost Letters in the classroom will help students to:
Identify primary and secondary historical resources.
Empathise with people from the past in order to understand their experiences, perspectives and ideas.
Discover the role that people of diverse backgrounds have played in the development and character of Australian society.
Learn about daily life for different groups of people in Australia’s past.
Understand different experiences and perspectives of Australian democracy and citizenship, including the status and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, migrants, women, and children.
The Lost Letters provides an engaging and multidimensional approach to teaching history, encouraging students to consider historical events from multiple perspectives. The resource helps students develop historical thinking skills, from analysing primary sources to understanding the long-term effects of colonisation and migration. Teachers can use it to guide rich discussions about the evolution of Australian society and democracy, making it a vital tool for fostering empathy and a deeper understanding of the past.
By incorporating The Lost Letters into your classroom, you’re not just teaching history – you’re making it come alive for your students in ways that are meaningful, memorable, and aligned with key curriculum outcomes.
